The Story of GSD Wolfy

GSD Wolfy

Here is another wonderful story about a German Shepherd, GSD Wolfy, sent in by one of our readers, Mary M. I hope that you enjoy reading it as much I did.

Hello,

I am Mary M., and just recently found your site through your youtube videos (which are very cute, by the way). I thought I would enter a picture of our GSD for your contest. His name is Wolfgang, and just recently turned 2 years old. Our story of getting him is rather interesting.

We had another shepherd, Sarge, since I was about 11 or so. My father became very ill with Chrones disease, and Sarge was a great comfort to him during the first stages. They were like two peas in a pod.

Almost two and a half years ago, a very severe spell of Chrones attacked my father's intestines, requiring him to remain hospitalized for weeks. It is our belief that Sarge thought Dad had died, because when Dad finally returned home, Sarge looked like he had seen a ghost. Not long after that, Sarge had a minor stroke. A few weeks later, my mother found him lying at the bottom of the stairs. It tore up our family, and myself, since I was away at college and could not be there to help bury him or say goodbye. We still miss him a lot.

Anyway (that was a long preamble..sorry) it became clear that we needed another GSD in the house, and fast! A family friend pointed us towards a breeder, and Dad went to visit, not intending on picking one out, just looking. While at the breeders, the only male pup walked right up and laid in Dad's lap for twenty minutes, perfectly still. The breeder was shocked, because the pup had never sat still before, for anything.

"Well, I guess he's your dog now," he said. So soon after that, Wolfgang came home to live with us. As you can see, he has grown into a beautiful boy, and we can't imagine life without him now. As far as we are concerned, a GSD will always be in our family. And my brother and I have decided that we will get GSDs when we leave home as well.

Have a wonderful day, and give the puppies (young and old) a hug from me.

-Mary M.
