I have to agree with the others. I feed my pup Orijen large breed puppy, which is grain free. He is 8 months and a tall, lean 85 lbs. He gets 2 cups in the AM & 2 1/4 cups in the PM.
Check the bag for guidelines, Dogs should be lean. You should be able to see a waistline and feel the ribs when you do a 2 hand pat down the sides.
Obesity is not good for gsds who have the potential for hip dysplasia. Loose stools can be a result of overfeeding, especially in a higher protein food. Solid Gold is a good brand though, I know several folks who swear by it.

I have a 6 month old GSD. She gets 2 1/2 cups am and pm. She is 43#. Look on the bag of dog food. Check to see if they are at the high end or low end and go from there.
Also, do not put them on a high protein food or puppy food at 6 months because they will grow too fast. They will still grow to their adult size.
You don't want to them to have skeletal problems from growing too fast.

Way way too much! by: Anonymous
My GSD was getting 2 cups am and pm a day.... he weighs 96 pounds and the vet said he is too heavy for his age (5yr) I have now cut him back to 1 1/2 cups am and pm. I can't imagine what 5 cups a day would have done to his little puppy self at age 6months.
