A way to feed a GSD puppy
by: Tiffany P

Correct way in general feeding? Correct way so he only takes food from you?

When my puppies were young I would put them in a down position outside of the kitchen (there food mat was in the kitchen). I would go around making noises and preparing their meals. If they got up I just took them back to their spot and put them back in a down position (I don't teach wait because, sit and down should be an automatic wait until given a release word).

I place their food on the floor and give them the release word. Three times a week I would stay with them while they ate. Playing with their food. Pulling their tail, giving them a "vet" exam. I would also take their bowls away, and wait for them to go in a down position, and give them a release word. This takes constant work, but it pays off in the end. My dogs don't have food aggression. They can share toys with other dogs and let children take toys away from them.

Hope this helps.
