Drooping German Shepherd ears

by Wayne
(Belize)

I recently bought a 9months old full breed german shepard dog but his ears is still drop down wards. I would like to know if there is a chance it will still rise.

Total German Shepherd:

Sometimes the ears just don't come up and chances are that if they're not up by this time that they won't stay up - sorry. But that's not 100% either.

I do know of one GSD who had floppy ears all her life and then when she was around 2 or 3 she started holding them upright, so go figure. But I can tell you that her case was definitely an oddity as far as I know of concerning this kind of thing happening. Normally if they're not up by around 6 or 7 months, then chances are high that they wont be.

Sometimes GSDs will just have floppy ears - that's just the way it is. You could try taping your German Shepherds dogs ears up at this point - however it may be too late, but what would you lose by trying?

Good luck - and if they don't come up that's all right - it doesn't change the bond you have with your GSD or the dogs ability to be your pet, right? It's still the same German Shepherd, only with floppy ears.

Droopy ears
by: Carrie

My GSD "Romeo" has droopy ears too, except when he is focusing on something, a noise, a squirrel, and then he holds both ears erect. When he is home with me and relaxing he lets his ears droop. Love my dog either way.

Bent Ears
by: Anonymous

Drooping ears can be caused by rough puppy play or being bent and broke by humans. Some times they do come up anyway. Our oldest GSD had one ear bent with a crack all the way across her ear. By the time she was a year old that ear stood up straight as can be.
