German Shepherd Guardian Angel

My wife was walking our Dachshund in our Arizona mountain front yard. Suddenly, the small dog yanked on the leash barking wildly.

My wife slipped, fell to the ground and looked up to see a large Javalina a few feet in front of her. Mature Javalinas are dangerous and will charge animals and people at close range.

Our neighbor's Lab was killed by a band of them a few years earlier. Fortunately, our shepherd came running from behind the house. Nine year old Angel, an untrained rescue dog, immediately inserted herself in front the Javelina keeping it at bay long enough for my wife to recover and move to safety.

Angel exhibted an instinctive reaction not to chase but to protect. We were lucky enough to have our guardian Angel that day.
