German Shepherd has skin problem on the bridge nose

by John

Hi,

I have a hairloss skin problem on the bridge of my 8 mo old's nose. The patch is about 1-1.5 in, round/oval. It doesn't bother her, no scratching, etc. I have a pic of her nose.

I thought maybe someone has seen this before. Vet had me apply antifungal/antimicrobial cream. It isn't helping. It looks like normal skin I believe. Gray color, soft, no sores, not crusty.

Thank you

have your dog checked for mainge. they must scratch the area and look for a tiny organism under microscope. 10 painful and $21 shots and topical cream got rid of it completely. for now.

alternatives to check on about nose issue
by: Debbie

Hi John,

I'm not a vet but it could possibly happen as a result of several things but if your dog is not scratching it or seems to not be bothered by it that is a good sign I would think. One thing to consider is to protect the dogs nose from sunburn where the hair is missing.

I can refer you 3 things:

1) a vet that offers all sorts of remedies for dog health issues - I use one of his books quite frequently with treating my own dogs for various ailments. Check it out and see what you think - even if it doesn't help you with this issue it can help with lots of future ones I can assure you.

Here's the page with the book:

2) Ask actual vets about your question online - they're very helpful, pretty fast and cheaply priced:

Here's the page where the form is: http://www.total-german-shepherd.com/Ask-the-Vet.html

or 3) find another vet in your area and get a 2nd opinion.

Good luck,
