My German Shepherd Dog is scratching his fur away
by Lois Rukamp
(Denmark, WI)
My GSD has scratched from day one when I brought him home at 5 months of age. He is now 14 months old. I had him to the vet a few times. The vet cannot see anything specific on the skin.
So far we tried Hydroxazine 50, Prenlisalone (not sure of spelling), and Tasty Yeast powder for his dog food (these things has minimized it but not cure it). I have switched dog foods and gave him oatmeal baths. I am out of ideas. Does anyone have any???

German Shepherd Puppy Food allergies?
by Mark
(Medford,New Jersey)
My 8 month old female german shepherd female has had some food issues. She has had problems digesting and the vet prescribed a sensitive stomach dog food.
We are now giving her Verris sensitive stomach formula and mixing it with the prescrition food. I have noticed that she has been scratching her neck a lot. Are there any suggestions?

German Shepherd puppy with allergies/Snoring
by chani trafficante
(oakland, ca usa)
I have 8 month old puppy - i was told by some at a pet store that he was allergic to his food - his fur had gotten very mangy and he was eating himself to death - it was horrible - she said it was more that like the chicken and corn -
I switched over to lamb and rice at trades joes- and it seemed to fix the problem/ he also snores a lot he is somewhere between 60 to 70 lbs - is this something I should be worried about or is he just a big lug....

My 9 yr old son is allergic to my German Shepherd
by Paulette Johnston
(Coldwater, MS)
Our German Shepherd pup, Princess, is 5 months and now my son had an asthma attack and I had to take him to the emergency room. I was told that he might be allergic to our new pup.
It is my understanding that it is the dander from the pup that might be causing him to have a reaction to the pup. Is there anything I can wash or put on the pup to prevent this?
We keep Princess on the tile floor area of our home now and make sure my sons washes his hands often. Please advise

Demodex (Red Mange) in AKC GSD's
by Vickie
(Hermitage, TN)
Is it true that dams carrying the demodex predisposition should not be bred? I have an 8 month of GSD with Demodex and his breeders purported him to be of the highest quality bloodline.
From my research demodex is inherited and is an immune deficiency in the bloodline. What, if any, is the breeder's responsibility?
