German Shepherd Puppy ears not up

by Sue
(Maryland)

My 6-1/2 month old German Shepherd puppy has 1 ear up and one ear still down. I have tried the curler and tape method and the gluing them together method all without success, so far.

Right now they are glued together. Any suggestions? Is there still hope for the ear to go up?

Oh... Those Floppy Ears!
by: Anonymous

Ok... I feel for you all! I have an almost 5 month old who has a soft left ear. The right ear went up a month ago. His mom has the same thing. I think that it is genetic. I read somewhere that 1 out of every 50 German Shepherds have this problem. I have him on calcium, and I also add Knox geletine to his food twice a day. Just sprinkle some (about a teaspoon) on top. If his ear does not come up in the next 3 weeks, I will resort to having my vet tape it up, and see what happens. Either way... I love him, and at least I did not get him with the intention of him being a "show dog". He was a rescue from a litter of 8. How was I to know that I was picking the "clown dog"? Oh well... Good luck everyone!
