Is an adult 1-year-old German Shepherd dog suitable for an apartment life, knowing that we are outside from 8:00 till 19:00?!

Dear person in charge,

I am interested in getting a German Shepherd dog, but I have an important inquiry first!

I live in a 3-room apartment! It is on the second floor! I leave house for work at 8:00, and I am not home before 19:00! I want to know if an adult male German Shepherd dog can make it in such an environment!!

Many thanks,
Adam

Total German Shepherd:

Adam, Well, to be honest with you I would have to say "NO!, NO!, NO!"

Pleeeeaaaase do not get any dog with this kind of schedule. That would be tremendously unfair to the dog.

Any dog, especially a smart dog breed like the German Shepherd, is a social animal and loves to be with it's family and how can that happen when you're gone all day long and well into the evening?

If you really want some interaction with dogs why not try and find some time to interact with a rescue or shelter that needs some help if you can find the time to work it into your schedule or maybe with a friends dog?

But otherwise I would have to encourage you not to get any dog with this type schedule - the dog will be unhappy and you'll be very unhappy with what the unhappy dog does in your apartment while you're gone.

A NEGLECTED DOG WILL BE AN UNHAPPY DISFUNCTIONAL DOG

Please don't buy a dog. Living in an apartment is fine- but your out way too much to keep a dog. If you really need a pet for companionship maybe you could get a cat and fit a cat flap. Any dog (even a couch potato breed) would be bored, lonely and depressed, and then it would start to behave in a way that would frustrate and upset you... it just won't work!
