My German Shepherd is Chewing / Biting Nails

My 10 year old mix bites/chews his nails until they bleed. What can I do to discourage this behavior? Thank you!

German Shepherd behavior problems, nipping, barking,

by Betty Jackson
(Wenatchee, Washington)

I have a 19 month old male German Shepherd named Max. I still have trouble with him wanting to nip me to get me to do what he wants to do, such as go outside or play.

It's very hard to relax with him in the house. Outside he is an annoying barker and will not listen to me at all when I try to correct him.

I exercise him with walks and play time in the backyard pretty much every day. If I don't he is miserable to spend time with. He gets into things in the house, chews and digs at the floor.

My first shepherd was so different. I am so unprepared for this. We have been to a couple of obedience courses already. He has gotten his Good Canine Citizenship award.

What can I do to help him and myself have a better relationship. Is it too late for us?

German Shepherd puppy is biting - aggressive?

I have a 14 week old male German Shepherd. I also have 2 Yorkies. The older Yorkie absolutely ignores the Shepherd. The younger and much smaller Yorkie refuses to leave the kitchen, which is large and the center of our house, and is essentially where the Shepherd stays.

I do have trouble with the Shepherd biting but his behavior towards the Yorkie tends to be getting rougher or more aggressive. I have tried leaving him alone in the kitchen, removing the Yorkie and yelling "ouch". He seems to grow bolder.

Otherwise, he is learning quickly and is very sweet but biting or gnawing is always an issue. I am afraid he is becoming aggressive, yet, it does also appear to be puppy behavior.

I have him in training. They also offer puppy play time, which he loves. The play time seems rather rough to me but all of the puppies seem happy. I wonder if this could make him more aggressive.

Thank you, P. C. Egan

German Shepherd Puppy is chewing everything

by Jerry

My German Shepherd Puppy female is about 5 months old chewing and licking everything wood, papers, feet, jumping up on people and biting not hurtful and seems a little too aggressive, and starting to hump the legs.

But when I walk her she seems to obey and heel at corners and heel when told but a very very short attention span? Any suggestions would help, I know she needs more patience and training.

How do you get a 12 week old GSD puppy to stop nipping at it's chihuahua buddy?

I have a 12 week old male GSD puppy and a 3 year old female chihuahua. My GSD puppy is always nipping playfully at my chihuahua. And it is not just the chihuahua he nips at. He does it to my husband and I too. I have had puppies before but none at mouthy as this one. I don't want him to continue to nip at the chihuahua when he gets bigger because he could hurt her.

I have tried submitting him to her as my breeder suggested. So far that hasn't worked. I have tried yelping when he bites me. Nothing has worked.

Any suggestions for how to prevent his nipping from becoming a bigger problem?

Thanks Ashley
