I am sorry for your loss, we just had to put our beloved scully down due to cancer. I understand how hard it is to make that decision, but to have a stranger do something that did not have to be done is far greater, because you had no control over the situation.
But I worked with a great vet in sc. And the one thing gaurenteed in life is that we don't get to keep the animals. eventually god will call them home because there is a far greater call for them. But don't say that you can't get another dog, because there are far to many dogs that are being taken to the pounds or just plain negelected and they , more than any other need the love that you have to offer.
